While at SI, she was a member of the Community Information Corps and received both summer and post-graduate fellowships through the CIC. She credits her CIC experience, along with excellent advising and challenging coursework, for the path she has been on since graduation.
After graduation, Kinney became the national youth access coordinator for the nonprofit Libraries for the Future. From 2003-06, she worked at Oberlin College as the national coordinator for a librarian recruitment program funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
Jim Clarke (MILS 97)
Prior to becoming an SI student, Clarke earned a bachelors in history at Hiram College and a masters in American history at the University of Houston.
A couple of Clarkes favorite learning experiences at SI involved an internship at Ford Motor Company and an Internet Public Library project.
Immediately upon graduation from SI, Clarke began work as corporate librarian for International Truck and Engine Corp. in Chicago. His job functions shifted over time to Web-based marketing management.
After seven years at International, he moved on to the DaimlerChrysler Commercial Vehicle Division where he works as a marketing manager for Detroit Diesel Corp.
Dan Cooney (MSI 00)
After graduation, Cooney worked at Commerce One designing a natural gas liquids distribution tracking system for BP Amoco. He returned to SI to work on a National Science Foundation-funded project to research the design of successful science and engineering collaboratories.
Cooney now works at West Pole, Inc., designing and implementing improvements to processes and systems for the knowledge management division within Pfizer, Inc. He is also vice-chair for programs of MOCHI, a Michigan-Ohio organization for people interested in human-computer interaction, and is the UXnet Local Ambassador for Ann Arbor.
On the Alumni Board, Cooney heads the project to invigorate the SI Alumni Network. He is also starting a quarterly social gathering for Ann Arbor area alumni. To attend, contact him at dcooney@umich.edu or Karen Jordan at kjordan@umich.edu.
Eva Davis (MSI 98)
Davis completed a specialization in Library and Information Services. During school, she completed an internship at the Plymouth District Library, and her graduation coincided with a posting for a teen librarian. Josie Parker (MILS 96), director of the Ann Arbor District Library, recruited Davis to become youth manager at the downtown location in 2002.
She describes the AADL as a rollercoaster ride of challenges, change, and opportunity. "I became the systemwide youth services manager in 2003, the branch services manager in 2005, and associate director of public services in 2006," she adds.
"One of the things I have most enjoyed is my experience managing our internship program for library school students, and I welcome the opportunity to bring alumni and current SI students together."
