SI is one of the few information schools to offer such an advanced recruiting system. Through iTrack, students, alumni, and the School of Information itself gain visibility with employers who may not have previously posted a job at SI.
With iTrack, students and alumni can:
- Create and store up to 10 resumes and cover letters in the system
- Include resumes in career-specific Resume Books that are sent directly to employers (and are available for employers to view)
- Submit resumes, cover letters, writing samples, and transcripts for online applications to prospective employers
- Manage the job search more effectively by tracking applications submitted through the system
- Keep notes on jobs and employers in the system
- Set up search agents that automatically notify you of new job postings
- Search for jobs by relevant and specific job functions and industry areas
- Post a primary resume and submit a profile of employment criteria for access to employers through the resume search function

SI Career Services & Practical Engagement
iTrack- Student Policy Statement
SI Career Services offers the University of Michigan School of Information students and alumni online access to job
and internship postings, resume books, and sign-up for workshops and employer presentations through an on-line
recruitment system, iTrack. Frequent and ethical use of this system will be an asset in your job search and will
ensure fair use for all that utilize the system. The following policies are designed to encourage ethical and collegial use.
- I. Falsification of Information Policy
iTrack functions best when integrity within the system is ensured. Just as members of the University community ensure
academic integrity by upholding academic conduct policies, iTrack users share responsibility to maintain system
integrity by agreeing to represent themselves accurately to potential employers. Those who deliberately falsify
documents (e.g., resumes, cover letters, etc.) or misrepresent personal information (e.g., major/college/school,
degree level, graduation date, employment eligibility, etc.) will be blocked from the system and will be required
to meet with SI Career Services. First-time offenders will receive a warning, second-time offenders will be blocked
from using the system for one academic year. Not only is it unethical and unacceptable to misrepresent yourself
when applying or interviewing for internships/jobs, employers have the right to terminate your employment or withdraw
an offer for misrepresentation.
- II. Resume Policy
In an effort to help students succeed and to ensure quality within the system, SI Career Services staff review
all resumes uploaded onto iTrack. Although most applicants invest a good deal of time and effort developing high
quality resumes, occasionally we see resumes that fail to meet employers’ baseline expectations. In such instances,
we reserve the right to place a ‘hold’ on the resume pending a resume consultation with an SI Career Services
staff member. Students will be notified if a resume consultation is required. Once students have consulted with
a staff member and have revised their resume to meet appropriate standards, the resume will be approved and
submitted to the system for employers to view. Please keep in mind that employers’ decisions to recruit at SI
(and through iTrack) are influenced by the quality of students’ application materials. It is in everyone's best
interest that we strive to ensure the high quality reputation of the University of Michigan School of Information.
These policies are in line with policies of the UM Career Center and follow
the guidelines stated by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.
Alumni For intial registration, please send an E-mail to Kelly Kowatch at kkowatch@umich.edu.
