Alumni spotlight: Wei Chen

Wei Chen, MSI ‘08
Associate User Experience Designer, Blizzard Entertainment
Orange County, California

Before SI

Before coming to UMSI, Wei earned her bachelor’s degree in information management from Sun Yat-sen University in China. At Sun Yat-sen University, she worked as a computer consultant searching and retrieving data for experiments and website construction and responding to users’ requests for technical support.

Wei’s SI experience

While at SI, Wei interned for Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Yahoo!, and Fry, where she gained real experience in the field she was studying.

“The internship experience exposed me to different design challenges and gave me a first-hand look at the UX (user experience) industry," she says. "It also makes me a strong candidate among other new grads who lack practical experience in the field. This was confirmed separately by my former and current employer.”

After UMSI

After graduating from UMSI, Wei worked for the Home Shopping Network as an associate product manager in user experience. At HSN, she conducted research and data analysis on their Web pages. At Blizzard Entertainment, Wei implements the design, presentation, and wireframing skills she learned at UMSI and during her internships.

“The PEP internships have proven to be the most valuable to my career success. Both of my managers in HSN and Blizzard said that my internship experiences were some of my strongest points.”
