The School of Information and Open.Michigan are hosting a Data Without Borders-inspired Datadive. Datadives are designed to bring data scientists and social organizations together for a day or a weekend to collaborate on data problems. Datadive provides the collaborative space for real work to happen.

In the spirit of “science for service,” data scientists from the University of Michigan and Detroit communities are invited to provide a weekend of service, lending their expertise to the social, environmental, and community problems local nonprofits are tackling.

The event starts on Friday, February 10 with the selected nonprofits presenting their data and the problem they are trying to solve to a community of data scientists ready to help.

All day Saturday, February 11 the data scientists clean, collect, sort, merge, plot, and analyze the data -- in hopes of providing the data analytic resources that the nonprofits need to get the job done.

Sunday, February 12 is saved for wrapping up and presenting the work that was completed to all the participants. Once the connection is made between the nonprofits and the data scientists, it is hoped that these collaborations will continue.
