SI SpotlightKara Goldhamer (MSI '01)
"I could take only four classes in one semester, but I really want to take 17. Every day I wanted to try something new because I was learning so much about everything -- from social systems to data retrieval to librarianship."

Before SI: Double major in anthropology and environmental science at Mills College. Worked in public affairs and in community organizing with such organizations as the EPA, East Bay ReLeaf,
and Coro National. Planned to attend policy school, but thought she would end up studying what she had already learned as a professional.
At SI: Worked with the Community Information Corps at SI to bring more public affairs and community service oriented students to the School. Gained skills in design and human-computer interaction, as well as a better grasp of the theory behind communication and information use.
Also did research supporting the U-M President's Information Revolution Commission, a
University-wide initiative to explore U-M's information technology needs and opportunities.
After SI: As a new media communications coordinator with the State of Oregon for nearly four years, she was responsible for digital communications and information services. Now, as part of the strategy team at opus:creative in Portland, Oregon, Kara addresses usability issues, information architecture, and content strategy for large-scale interactive projects.
