Before SI: Kiran earned a Bachelor of Engineering (computer science) from the University of Mumbai and then entered the School of Information to study in Human-Computer Interaction.
At SI: Kiran picked up valuable experience while at SI outside of his regular courses. He worked at the Collaboratory for Research on Electronic Work as a research assistant and completed an internship at Intel Corp. in Hillsboro, Oregon. He also was an officer with the School of Information Student Association (student government) and the School of Information Global Network (a social and advocacy group). Looking back, Kiran says his group project work was good for him, especially in the SI 501 course, which provided "an interesting experience of working in a group of people having completely different educational backgrounds."
After SI: Kiran is now a user experience researcher at Microsoft Corp. "I am using skills learned in all HCI courses for my daily job," Kiran says. "It is exciting to see the classroom education getting used in real life."
Kiran sums up his experience as being a positive one. "U-M alumni are spread all over the world. I met quite a few U-M alumni here at Microsoft, at Intel during my summer internship, and in big Indian companies during my last visit home. All Wolverines stick together!"
