The Leinweber Building is the home of the University of Michigan School of Information, housing the school's operations and graduate programs. The state-of-the-art complex opened in May 2025. With modern classrooms, maker labs and spontaneous conversation spots woven throughout, the Leinweber Building makes space for bold ideas and collaboration across disciplines.

Elevator access:

South entrance first floor: continue straight from the entrance, elevators will be on the left.
East entrance third floor: turn left from the entrance, elevators will be on your right.

Ramp access:

South entrance first floor (most accessible) from parking lot NC27; east entrance third floor from parking lot NC48 (accessible, but lengthy ramp path from back of lot).

Parking

Accessible visitor parking is available in lot NC27, just south of the Leinweber Building. Enter this lot from Murfin Avenue, just south of Hayward Street. You will enter the building’s south entrance, on the first level. Elevators are down the main hall. Additional nearby visitor parking is in lot NC48, with building entry on the third level. Visitor parking requires card-only payment using the app AimsMobilePay.com.

Getting to UMSI from Detroit Metro Airport

The Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) is the major international airport closest to Ann Arbor. Other options include the Toledo Express Airport or the Bishop International Airport in Flint, Michigan.

Travel west on I-94 from the airport. Exit onto US-23 north. Exit and turn west toward Ann Arbor on Plymouth Road. Turn left at a traffic light onto Murfin Avenue. Turn left on Hayward Street and turn right into parking lot NC48, adjacent to the Leinweber Building on the north. Enter the building. You will be on the third level. This is the main entrance to the school.

UMSI on Central Campus

This office is on the second floor of the building, through the glass door to the right of the Panera Bread entrance.

Parking for this location is available at the Thayer and the Palmer Parking Structures (both require U-M permits) and the Maynard Parking Structure (City of Ann Arbor public parking).

Enter through the doors off N. University; the elevator is direct to the back of the entrance.

UMSI at The Collegian Building

The Collegian Building is located between the Nickels Arcade and East William St. on Maynard. Public parking is nearby, in the Maynard Parking Structure.

Elevator access:

Enter through the doors off Maynard; the elevator is to the back of the entrance on the left. The offices are located on the 5th floor.
