Diane Hummel on looking in unconventional spaces for the career of your dreams

After decades working at Spectrum Health as a manager and medical librarian, 1992 Master of Information and Library Science graduate Diane Hummel retired. But not before using her UMSI skills to create a central library collection that would benefit both nurses and patients.
As a medical librarian, Diane merged her love of literature and medicine. Though her career didn’t fit a conventional pattern, her degree gave her the skills she needed to do what she loves.
Don’t get discouraged, and look in unique places for information service jobs. Look at law practices, medical centers, big businesses and start-up companies. They may not call it "information," but they will have a space for you as long as you share the things you can do after getting this degree.
