The Tuesday following Thanksgiving is GivingTuesday, a global generosity movement that encourages people to do good. At USMI, events of the past few years at home and abroad have focused our attention on the vital importance of fostering diversity, equity and inclusion in all facets of our community. On GivingTuesday, December 1, we encourage supporting UMSI students through initiatives that empower those who need it most.

Here are three funds that create life-changing opportunities for our students:

  • Student Emergency Fund – helps students facing financial hardship to continue their education at UMSI in these uncertain times
  • Albert D. Jones & Clara Stanton Jones Scholarship – supports students pursuing careers in information, particularly urban librarianship, with preference for those who are first in their families to attend college or graduate school, who have overcome obstacles, or who are committed to working with historically underserved or underprivileged populations
  • John, Karen and Casey Cameron Community College Fund – supports new and current community college transfer students at UMSI by providing funds for community college programming, such as the Community College Summer Institute (CCSI)

A complete list of UMSI’s DEI-related funds is available here.

These are challenging times in higher education and caring individuals can make a tremendous difference in UMSI’s ability to continue to serve our students well.
