Despite Facebook’s waning popularity with younger audiences, one feature keeps users on the platform: Facebook groups.

A recent article by Business Insider discusses the popularity of Facebook groups, which allow users to join a community of people who share similar interests.

Cliff Lampe, an expert on digital communications at the University of Michigan School of Information, was cited in the article. He discusses the challenges group moderators face while managing their groups and argues that Facebook has a bigger responsibility in helping users address these difficulties.

"Facebook themselves do have an ethical responsibility from a technology standpoint, because algorithms versus individual people is never a fair fight," Lampe says.
