The University of Michigan School of Information (UMSI) is replacing iTrack with a data-powered career services platform. UMSI CareerLink will serve as the one link for students to access UMSI career support. The platform offers one-on-one guidance from UMSI Career Development Office (CDO) career advisors and peer coaches, recommended job listings and events, and 24/7 access to online career education resources.

UMSI CareerLink will also serve as employers’ one link for optimizing recruitment of UMSI students. CDO staff are available to support employers using the free and intuitive new system. They’ll help recruiters connect with diverse candidates whose in-demand information expertise serves their company’s unique needs.

And as with iTrack, UMSI alumni will always be able to access UMSI CareerLink to help meet their career goals.

Student/alumni benefits available at launch include:

  • A valuable networking community of trusted employers and alumni
  • A built-in task manager designed to help manage the entire search process, from applications to offers, all in one place
  • An employer contact directory with up-to-date emails for customizing applications or following up after an interview
  • Access to trusted company research
  • Opportunities to attend exclusive networking, recruiting and career education events led by employers, alumni and UMSI’s CDO
  • Job and internship listings tailored to UMSI students

Employer benefits available at launch include:

  • Flexible and inclusive options for engaging with UMSI students supported by the CDO team, including on-campus or virtual events like information sessions, career days and office hours
  • Opportunities for brand amplification to attract diverse candidates with the most in-demand skills
  • Powerful search tools to connect directly with candidates whose goals and preferences align with recruiting efforts

In addition to these benefits, data filtering will be a helpful tool for UMSI students and alumni, who understand the importance of being able to easily access information to support decisions and meet goals.

“Data is core to the functionalities of UMSI CareerLink,” says Katie Dunn, UMSI’s associate director of career development. “One of the things that was on our wishlist was more robust utilization of data, because we collect a lot of data from students regarding internship and employment outcomes.”

The CDO team will introduce the full set of data tools as they continuously update the platform with the latest internship and employment outcome data.

“Users will quickly be able to see top employers hiring UMSI students,” says Dunn. “They’ll also be able to do their own filtering and drill down into other data points they’re interested in.”

The CDO team is also looking forward to sharing public data dashboards with UMSI faculty, staff and additional partners.

Here are some suggestions from UMSI’s CDO on how to make UMSI CareerLink work most effectively:
