By Noor HindiThe rapid evolution of artificial intelligence is helping spread misinformation at an alarming rate. From doctored photographs to the use of deepfake, credible information is increasingly difficult to recognize.
Logically Facts, a British startup company that specializes in analyzing and fighting disinformation, reports on how the expansion of artificial intelligence is enabling misinformation.
University of Michigan School of Information associate professor of information Joyojeet Pal, an expert on politics, social media and society in India, was interviewed for the piece.
He talks about the use of AI technology to create “clever” misinformation campaigns using bots.
“In a campaign, one problem is getting enough foot soldiers who are adequately competent in crafting clever misinformation, but now you can get AI to assist people who would otherwise not make very clever and deceptive misinformation, which can have greater impact,” Pal says.
