UMSI awards & honors: summer 2026

Faculty, staff and students of the University of Michigan School of Information regularly earn local and national recognition for their research, service and thought leadership.

Awards & honors

Cliff Lampe, professor of information and associate dean for academic affairs, earned a Strategic Initiative Fund grant from U-M to support the Michigan Deepfake Resilience Hub, a cross-campus initiative focused on helping people identify and understand AI-generated media.

Qiaozhu Mei, professor of information and associate dean for research and innovation, earned the 2026 Seoul Test of Time Award from the ACM Web Conference Steering Committee. The award recognizes papers that have made a significant and lasting contribution to the web research community. 

PhD student Xin Ye earned the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad. The award is the highest recognition granted by the Chinese government to Chinese doctoral students who study overseas, as well as postdoctoral researchers who conduct research and have received doctorates overseas. 

Thought leadership

Krystle Forbes, associate director of career development, and Nick Jones, employer and alumni relations coordinator, presented at the National Career Development Association NCDA 2026 Conference on July 1. Their presentation was titled “Access and Equity in Action: Practical Career Development Strategies That Advance Inclusion, Belonging and Opportunity—Without Saying ‘DEI.’”
