Biography

Paul Green is a research professor at the University of Michigan where he conducts human factors research on driver interfaces, driver distraction, driver workload, and other topics.  His primary appointment is at the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI) were leads the Human Factors Group.  He also has appointments in Industrial ad Operations Engineering (IOE, research professor/adjunct professor) and the School of Information (lecturer).  He has written several SAE Recommended Practices, in particular SAE J2944, Operational Definitions of Driving Performance Measures and Statistics, now expanded into a Handbook (415 pages) for the Army to include both wheeled and tracked vehicles, on- and off-road driving, and single vehicles and vehicle platoons.  He has degrees in 3 disciplines, is a fellow in both the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society and the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors, and is a board-certified Human Factors Professional.  He has more than 300 publications to his credit.  He also teaches 3 courses per year, typically the automotive human factors (IOE 437) and human-computer interaction courses (IOE 436), SI 511-044 (Human Factors: The Science of UX) and the flagship continuing education course in the profession, the Human Factors Engineering Short Course, now in its 66th year.
