Seth Bernstein
Biography
I am a Ph.D. student at the University of Michigan School of Information, focusing on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Computing Education. My research uses generative artificial intelligence to make computing education more accessible and personally meaningful.
Before beginning my Ph.D., I studied Computer Science at Temple University, where I researched how novice students understand core programming concepts. I have also explored how large language models (LLMs) can generate explanations, analogies, and learning materials that reflect students’ interests and cultural backgrounds. By combining perspectives from HCI and AI, I aim to make computing education more equitable by studying how personalized support can foster motivation, improve comprehension, and broaden participation in computing.
