Preferred admissions

UMSI already on your mind?

Preferred admission is designed for high school students applying to the University of Michigan who want to plan ahead to join the School of Information as sophomores.

If you select preferred admission on the Common App, you’ll have a spot waiting for you in the Bachelor of Science in Information program. Then, in your first year at U-M, you’ll just need to take your prerequisites and submit the application form (similar to declaring a major).

As a preferred admit, you'll also receive invitations to special events and guidance from a UMSI admissions coordinator.

How to select preferred admission

As a high school student: When applying to U-M, select “preferred admission” to the School of Information on your Common Application. That’s it!
