MSI fee waiver information

Engagement-based fee waiver

If you engage with UMSI by attending an admissions event or appointment, you can apply to the Master of Science in Information program at no cost.

You’ll qualify if you register and attend:

  • A virtual MSI information session
  • A student ambassador appointment
  • An in-person admissions event
  • An admissions advisor appointment

You’ll also qualify if you visit UMSI’s booth and fill out an interest form at a graduate fair or conference.

How it works

Explore and register for MSI admissions events. An application fee waiver will be emailed to you after your live event or appointment concludes.

You should wait to submit your application until you receive your waiver, since application fees unfortunately cannot be refunded.

Need-based fee waiver

Requirements

To be eligible for a need-based fee waiver from UMSI, you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Be an enrolled undergraduate college senior or graduate student currently receiving financial aid from an institution in the United States, Puerto Rico or a U.S. territory.
  • Have a student aid index listed on the Student Aid Report of less than $1,500. The Student Aid Report is provided after you submit your FAFSA.

How to request a need-based fee waiver

Submit your waiver request as early as possible, leaving at least three days (72 hours) before the application deadline.

Step 1: Complete the UMSI Need-Based Fee Waiver Request Form. You will be asked to provide a copy of the first page of your Student Aid Report.

Step 2: UMSI will review your fee waiver request submission and notify you via email. We are unable to refund an application fee if you submit your application before receiving confirmation of your waiver.
